How to Install Android 7.1.2 Nougat update on OnePlus One?

According to the Lineage OS stats, the OnePlus One ranks first in terms of number of downloads for the latest Lineage OS 14.1. This means, most of the OnePlus One users are now turning their heads towards custom ROMs in order to upgrade the Android system. 1+1 is out of official OnePlus support; that means, no more official updates. The last Oxygen OS that the phone ever received was version 2.1.4. However, a new official Resurrection Remix 5.8.3 will update the OnePlus One to latest Android 7.1.2 Nougat firmware.

The official Lineage OS 14.1 brought 7.1.1 Nougat to the OnePlus One and several other phones. Also, the manufacturer is now furiously rolling out official Oxygen OS 4.1.3 updates to the flagships OnePlus 3 and the 3T. Whereas, other device users like OnePlus 2, OnePlus X, and 1+1 are disappointed as they rarely see any official OTA updates. The only way to update these devices is to install a custom ROM based on Nougat.

The Resurrection Remix is now rolling out Android 7.1.2_r5 Nougat with the latest AOSP and Lineage OS sources compiled into one. The RR ROMS are based on Lineage OS sources. This means that the official Lineage OS 15 based on 7.1.2 Nougat is on its way. Moreover, as the ROM is official, it comes with little to now bugs and can be used as a daily driver.

FAQ regarding OnePlus One Android Nougat AOSP based ROM :

  1. How to root Android 7 Nougat on OnePlus One : SuperSU 2.76 stable is confirmed to be working. But I haven’t installed any Gapps. (OpenGapps says we need to work around new signing mechanism)
  2. F2FS? I did not test this myself… But kernel has support already (of cource, it’s from CM) so you may have a try. Remember to backup!
  3. Menu key / App switcher?Menu key now acts as recents, since I don’t think the former is as useful as the latter. And there is no more lag while tapping home button since we don’t check for double tap anymore.
  4. TWRP shows error? If that’s two lines of “log”, you can safely ignore it.If there is something else, please stop and post it here.Reference: I’m using official TWRP 3.0.2
  5. Disable HW keys, enable soft keys, screen color calibration?

Disable HW keys: echo 0 > /proc/touchpanel/keypad_enable (needs repeat on reboot)Enable soft keys: echo “qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 >> /system/build.prop (once)Screen color calibration: echo “32768 31784 27852” > /sys/class/graphics/fb0/rgb (needs repeat on reboot, change the values as you need. With the recently released Android Nougat for the recent Nexus devices: Nexus 6p and Nexus 5x, and after that the Android Nougat Source code release has accelerated the excitement and also within a week we have seen many Android Nougat AOSP ROMs and many CyanogenMod 14 ROMs already available via unofficial builds with the help of developer community, thanks to the Android Open Source codebase.

Status of the Unofficial/Official OnePlus One Lineage OS 14.1 Nougat ROM:

The Lineage OS 14.1 for OnePlus One is the most downloaded Lineage OS ROM among all Android devices, which clearly show the popularity of Lineage OS ROM among OPO users. Now it has got the OFFICIAL Lineage OS 14.1 update while it is still a NIGHTLY where you can expect minor BUGs but the ROM can be used as a daily driver without any issues at all. That’s the beauty of an OFFICIAL Lineage OS ROM.

Earlier developer updateing over xda had brought this Android Nougat Update for OnePlus One (OPO) for the first where most of the features and hardware of this device are functional with this Nougat ROM. This is just an vanilla AOSP Nougat ROM without any crazy hacks or mods. Along with the AOSP ROM, we also have the OnePlus One CyanogenMod 14 ROM for which we don’t have the working and non-working status.

As these are initial builds which means there will be many BUGS known and unknown and of course there are work arounds also available to FIX many of those issues (for the AOSP ROM). If you are interested to try the Android Nougat 7.0 for OnePlus One then try following any of the ROM update link which has complete step-by-step guide.

You just select the ROM you want to flash on OnePlus One and follow the corresponding ROM flashing guide, that’s all!

The AOSP ROM update guide also has a Working and Non-working list which one must not ignore as the Nougat ROM build for OnePlus One is an initial experimental build. But the OnePlus One CM14 ROM does not have a working and non-working status details and hence take backup and be cautious before updating the CM14 update. Also it is always recommended to have a complete backup of all the data on your Android phone or if the phone installed with a TWRP/CWM or any other custom recovery then we recommend to take a NANDROID backup regardless of the ROM build status.
